The suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting in Pueblo County over the weekend has been identified.

The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office identified the suspect as 36-year-old Santiago Evans Valencio. Deputies responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Acoma Road and 32 3/4 Lane early Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, responding deputies discovered Valencio was wanted on several felony warrants. The sheriff’s office said when deputies attempted to take him into custody, he pulled out a gun and fired shots.

The coroner’s office said Valencio died from gunshot wounds.

The second person in the car did not sustain any injuries and was taken in for questioning. There were no reported injuries to deputies during the incident.
