Mayo Davison is a Multimedia Journalist for KOAA News5 who joined the team after three years in the "Sunflower State" with KWCH 12 in Wichita, Kansas.
Mayo graduated from Friends University in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Communications. While in college, she had the opportunity to intern at KWCH 12, the CBS affiliate.
During her internship, she worked alongside several award-winning journalists who taught her the ins and outs of the news world. With hard work and a passion for telling stories, Mayo's internship led to a full-time position as a Digital Content Producer.
From there, she worked her way up to become a Digital Reporter. Her "Hot on KWCH" segment showcased positive stories in the community while also highlighting people going above and beyond.
Now, as a reporter living out her dream, she's excited to get to know the people who call Colorado home and share their stories. She strives to give a voice to the voiceless and help those who feel like they have no other place to turn.
While she's been in Colorado, her most memorable assignment has been covering the protests over the Christopher Columbus monument in downtown Pueblo. Getting to the bottom of the real issue that moves our society drives her inner journalist.
Her love for journalism started at a young age, she would write short stories as a young girl in southeast Kansas. She always knew she was destined for a greater purpose so she worked hard throughout the years preparing for her future. Her family has been her biggest cheerleaders, pushing her to be the best she could be. She is the youngest of four children, and secretly her mom's favorite.
Mayo's really enjoyed her time in Colorado so far, she loves seeing the mountains every day and working with her dedicated colleagues. They make going to work every day well worth it. Since living in "Colorful Colorado" she's loved the opportunity to get into shape and participate in hiking trips.
Outside of work, Mayo is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. She enjoys reading nonfiction books, spending time with family and participating in community events. She is a huge foodie, so you can likely catch her around town trying out a new restaurant.
