COLORADO SPRINGS — IV therapy continues to become more common as people seek the benefits of hydration at warp speed for many different reasons. Rocky Mountain IV Medics is a new company in southern Colorado that will bring IV therapy safely to you in the comfort of your home.
Most people may have heard of IV hydration therapy as a way to quickly get over a hangover, which Tracy Lutrell, RN, who is the general manager of Rocky Mountain IV Medics, says they can do. “When you drink too much you are dehydrated. Drinking leeches, vitamins and minerals from your body, so we can come in and replace them very quickly and get you back on your feet and feeling better before we are even gone.”
Tracy also says IV therapy can also help with chronic medical issues. “We have a wide range of patients. We can treat hangovers, and we treat migraines. We also treat a lot of maternity patients who have the hyperemesis (severe nausea and vomiting) where they cannot stop throwing up, and they can't eat as much as need to and are not getting their vitamins and nutrients that they need for the babies to grow.”
Rocky Mountain IV Medics is a home health company operating under standing doctor's orders for IV therapy. It’s not a service that is covered by insurance, but Tracy says you can use your HSA or FSA card. “Our main goal is to get to the patient within an hour of when they call. Most of our patients don't call us until they are not feeling well so that is our main goal, to get there within an hour and get that patient feeling better. We do it in the comfort of your home where you can stay in your pajamas and in your bed if you want, and we will hook you up right there so that you're comfortable. We're in and out within an hour most cases.”
Tracy also says patient safety is always the top priority and you can trust that it will be a trained medical professional who comes to your home. “We want our people to be overqualified. We only hire certified paramedics or registered nurses who have a background with starting an IV. We try to hire what we call IV experts. Our nurses and paramedics always have full discretion with the patient. We always do a full medical assessment, we take vital signs, we listen to the lungs, we ask medical history, we ask what's going on, and if we see anything that throws up a red flag we will encourage the patient to either call the doctor if it's something mild, or we have actually sent patients to the emergency room, or we have called 911 while we're there, and will stay with the patient until they get taken to the hospital.”
Rocky Mountain IV Medics has a wide range of IV’s that can be customized for each patient depending on what they need. “Our IV’s contain all kinds of vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. Our Myer’s Cocktail is our most popular IV, that contains a liter of IV fluid as well as vitamin C, glutathione, magnesium, zinc, vitamin B complex and vitamin B12. If we give an IV for a migraine and it's not helping by the time we're almost finished, we can add a few more things to help. We carry Benadryl, Pepcid, Zofran for nausea, Toradol for pain and extra magnesium really helps with a migraine and pain.”
