COLORADO SPRINGS — We are about a week into 2020, and if you set a weight loss or fitness resolution, how's it going? Losing weight and keeping it off can be one of the most challenging things someone can tackle, and that is a fact Dr. Kristen Kells knows first hand.

Kristen says, “I had always struggled with my weight, ever since I was a young kid. I can remember people saying, 'Oh, she's just big-boned.' I tried every program under the sun and I had a lot of shame and embarrassment because of it.”

When she was Thirty-three years old, Dr. Kells says she reached her breaking point. “At my highest weight I was 200 pounds, and I lost 80 pounds. Through trial-and-error, learning, and developing this program I've kept it off for fifteen years, which I really think is the most important piece of this. How do you create [weight loss] so it's practical and you can live your life and you're not starving. Many people are used to programs that are so restrictive it's just not practical.”

Dr. Kells has been helping others lose weight in Colorado Springs since 2003 and now has locations across the country. Through research, and trial-and-error she says she has learned a lot. “The hidden secret in the weight loss industry is 95% of people will gain their weight back, and oftentimes more. Most people can relate to that and I knew there had to be a better way. I knew I had to reinvent [weight loss] because I had gone up and down, so many times.”

Having personally struggled with all aspects of trying to lose weight Dr. Kells knew she needed to create a multi-pronged approach that addressed the psychology, chemistry, food and how to sustain a healthy weight together.

Dr. Kells says her programs taps into unlocking the chemistry of weight loss. “To achieve real weight loss that is sustainable, you have to actually reboot your metabolism and change how your body burns fat and utilizes fuel, it really is a chemistry issue. So many [weight loss programs] are based on calories in, calories out - or reading a book and doing this or that. It just doesn't work or we would all have success losing weight and keeping it off.”

While tapping into your metabolism and burning fat may sound familiar to other weight loss plans, Dr. Kells says her approach is tailored to each person’s individual needs. “In teaching someone’s body to burn fat we use nutraceuticals, a proprietary formula, finding out what amino acids are missing, creating a specific eating plan that teaches your body to do it.”

Dr. Kells also says it’s important to know how fat on different parts of someone’s body is targeted for weight loss. “We call it weight loss resistance. Particularly with belly fat that is hormonally a completely different situation than fat under the skin. We target [belly fat] chemically through an eating plan, supplements, amino acids, nutraceuticals, botanicals, and vitamins. We've developed a formula that uses herbs in all of the right ratios, to teach your body how to lose weight and burn fat while at the same time you’re not hungry. My team combines that with accountability coaching support, and what I feel is the most important piece is teaching somebody how to keep the weight off for a lifetime. We also provide lifelong back-end support to our clients so they are able to stay on track.

In the end Dr. Kells says her program aims to allow people to live a normal life without being tied to a restrictive lifestyle so they can enjoy shopping at the grocery story with knowledge and also enjoy eating out with family or friends when you want to.

Dr. Kells also says her program doesn’t require long and grueling workouts. “Most research will show that somewhere between 10% to 20% of weight loss is related to exercise. Most of it is nutrition so my program is not based on heavy intense exercise, because that's not sustainable for most people. Intense workouts also don’t give quick results and those are important. You have to experience wins while making the program a new lifestyle.”

Dr. Kells success hasn't just been for herself and her clients. She also has been a contributor to the success of Team USA Wrestling. “I have been the team wellness advisor with wrestling since 2009. It's been one of the great experiences of my life, traveling all over the world with them and being at the games twice as part of the team. I have been both learning from them - and teaching them about overall health and wellness - that is so important in a weight dependent sport. It's been amazing and my experience has been part of the research that's gone into my program.”

If you would like to know more about Dr. Kells weight loss program she says the best thing to do is pick up the phone and give her team a call. “We create a program for you, based on an initial meeting with my team. We always do that for no charge and no obligation. It’s a chance for you to take a chance on yourself, and that's the best way to start. Then we created your program as an all-inclusive lifelong program. We can create payments that are affordable, and you can know that on the back-end of your weight loss you will have a ton of help for the long haul.”
