COLORADO SPRINGS — We are about a week into 2020, and if you set a weight loss or fitness resolution, how's it going? Losing weight and keeping it off can be one of the most challenging things someone can tackle, and that is a fact Dr. Kristen Kells knows first hand.
Kristen says, “I had always struggled with my weight, ever since I was a young kid. I can remember people saying, 'Oh, she's just big-boned.' I tried every program under the sun and I had a lot of shame and embarrassment because of it.”
When she was Thirty-three years old, Dr. Kells says she reached her breaking point. “At my highest weight I was 200 pounds, and I lost 80 pounds. How do you create [weight loss] so it's practical and you can live your life and you're not starving. Many people are used to programs that are so restrictive it's just not practical.”
Dr. Kells has been helping others lose weight in Colorado Springs since 2003 and now has locations across the country. Through research, and trial-and-error she says she has learned a lot. “The hidden secret in the weight loss industry is 95% of people will gain their weight back, and oftentimes more. Most people can relate to that and I knew there had to be a better way. I knew I had to reinvent [weight loss] because I had gone up and down, so many times.”
Having personally struggled with all aspects of trying to lose weight Dr. Kells knew she needed to create a multi-pronged approach that addressed the psychology, chemistry, food and how to sustain a healthy weight together.
Dr. Kells says her programs taps into unlocking the chemistry of weight loss. “To achieve real weight loss that is sustainable, you have to actually reboot your metabolism and change how your body burns fat and utilizes fuel, it really is a chemistry issue. So many [weight loss programs] are based on calories in, calories out - or reading a book and doing this or that. It just doesn't work or we would all have success losing weight and keeping it off.”
