PUEBLO — "I just feel like this year everyone wants to go and make it to state," Pueblo East senior softball standout Dalaney Barela said.
To start the year, the Lady Eagles are doing just that. In their first two games, East is 2-0 led by their talented infielder.
"it's actually sad, but you know we are going out with a big smile and leaving it all out on the field," Barela said. "This is your last year so we need to go all out."
In her final year, Barela has certainly set the tone with a .400 batting average, two RBIs and 5 runs scored.
"This year it kind of hits home for me more," Barela said. "So it's like I am really going out here to do my best. You know it kind of lights you up and sparks a flame in you."
A true team player, Barela has only one goal during the 2019 season, make it to state and win the CHSAA title.
"Like I always say, do it for the person next to you," Barela said. "I am so excited to make it to state. it is not even a question that I know we already are."
For her tremendous play on the field and her teamwork off of it, Dalaney Barela is this week's Colorado Springs Orthopedic Group Athlete of the Week.
