The first major cold weather of the season arrived in the Virginia mountains and foothills Tuesday.
Between a half-inch and three inches of snow fell across parts of Virginia's New River Valley overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Schools were closed, offering students a pre-Thanksgiving break.
More snow is in the forecast for areas close to the West Virginia-Virginia border.
