A 12-year-old girl and her father have made an amazing discovery on an Oregon beach. Miranda Petrone and Mike Petrone found two cannons at Arch Cape on Saturday.
Heavy surf washed up the two ancient cannons on the Oregon coast last weekend, just south of Cannon Beach. It's believed the cannons could be from the U.S.S. Shark, a survey schooner that sank while trying to leave the Columbia River Bar in 1846.
Historians are headed out to determine whether the two cannons are from the Shark. The cannons are visible at low tide.
The U.S.S. Shark was the first U.S. war vessel to pass through the Straits of Magellan from east to west.
