Lindy Burdet and her husband Heinz Fischer didn't set out to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records on a recent trip to the North Pole, but that's what happened. Burdet and Fischer just returned to their Vermont home.

Part of their journey to the North Pole was by helicopter. They were lowered onto a sheet of ice and skied four miles to the actual pole. "Oh, they thought we were completely ready for the happy farm - particularly when we found our guide Eric Phillips on the internet that we were completely looney but we like to do this kind of thing so it made sense," Burdet said.

It turns out their big adventure may break a Guinness World Record. Burdet is 76 and Fischer is 79. They could be the oldest married couple to ski to the Pole.  "We were really extremely lucky. The weather was just right, we had a weather window of two days. The expedition before us didn't make it," Fischer said.

Burdet and Fischer say they didn't take the trip to get the record. They didn't even know about it until their guide told them. They just wanted a once-in-a-lifetime experience and to share this adventure together.

The adventures aren't over for the pair. In October they'll travel to the island of St. John to help uncover ancient trails through the national forest.
