Posted 7:48 AM 9/4/2012 : The search for a West Nile vaccine
According to the CDC, this year's West NIle virus outbreak is the worst in history. But now we're learning a vaccination to protect humans could come sooner than we think.
Researchers at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center are making progress as they develop a vaccine that could save lives.
Researchers say they're able to isolate strains of the West Nile virus then use a chemical which "inactivates" it; basically rendering the virus harmless.
Researchers are now in the process of developing the actual vaccine, which would then be followed by years of testing before it hit the market.
