There is a sure sign Thanksgiving dinners are wrapping up and the clean-up is underway. Large slicks of grease start to rise at the waste water treatment plant.
What you think is a little grease down the drain has the potential to create big problems. Plant managers say they see some grease float to the top of sediment tanks daily, but on Thanksgiving it multiplies 10 to 15 times. "[It] can come back up in a home or business. It can come back up into the environment. Or [cause] operational challenges here at our wastewater treatment plant," said Steve Berry with Colorado Springs Utilities. The solution is simple. Put your Thanksgiving waste in the garbage instead of down the drain.
