The Colorado Springs Tactical Enforcement Unit is a team that prefers to operate without attention, but they've made an exception allowing news 5 a closer look at what they do. Tactical Enforcement is also called SWAT, a name that members say can give the wrong idea because of how entertainment shows have portrayed it. "Where in every episode they were shooting people up and blowing things up and that's totally unrealistic," said Colorado Springs Police Sgt, Ronald Sheppard.
Members of this unit have at least five years with Colorado Springs Police Department; they have to pass a demanding physical test and shooting test. Leaders want members who recognize risk, not wild-west attitudes. Tactical is just as much strategic thinking and team work as physical ability
Success for this team is a safe outcome for the suspect, the public and themselves. That comes from precise training and tactics. . "It's very important, because how you train is how you perform," said team member, Officer Brian Frahm.
