Posted 4:55 PM 10/4/2012 : Historic Pueblo landmark gets major facelift
A $10 million renovation project is underway at a historic landmark in Pueblo. Memorial hall, located by the riverwalk, is getting a new addition and a huge makeover. The theater, which was built in 1919, will now have new seating, air conditioning and a new dressing room area.
The hall hosts about two dozens performances a year, but the goal is to quadruple that with these enhancements. "We couldn't perform in the summer months because (of the heat) it was shut down. So now we'll have a 24/7, 365 days a year performance hall for the city and community of Southern Colorado," said Bill Zwick, with the City of Pueblo Planning Department.
The project is being funded by a small percent of sales tax revenues that used to go to retailers.
Construction is expected to be finished by Memorial Day of 2013.
