For the tenth year running the local Fraternal Order of Eagles - Aerie #145 - is helping kids from D-60 schools buy their holiday presents.
Usually the kids get $100 to spend on gifts for themselves and their families, but this year - thanks to some big donations locally from K-mart, Pepsi, and others - each family is getting $120. That extra ability to help doesn't seem to be common for every group this holiday season, but the Eagles say they have Pueblo to thank for this year's success.
"Everybody has just stepped up; everybody knows the economic times are tough, but when it comes to children they're willing to open their wallets and their hearts," says Eagles-member William Rick.
This year they're helping 73 kids and their families; the most ever is 96 kids in one year. Children and families are selected by D-60, based on need.
After the K-mart trip, they took the gifts over to the Eagles' clubhouse to wrap them up.
