Posted 9:11 PM 3/7/2012 : Future Buffs face potential showdown for state title
Thursday night will showcase two of the top teams in state featuring two of the top players in the nation.
And they will be future teammates on the same court where they will possibly go head-to-head for a state championship.
It's Wesley Gordon and the Sierra Stallions versus Josh Scott and the Lewis-Palmer Rangers. Both will play college ball next season for the Colorado Buffaloes and both are in Boulder this week for the high school basketball final four.
"It's going to be great just because we're both going to CU and it's going to be at CU," said Gordon. "So it's going to be really fun. We played each other and there was a lot of hype to it, so it's going to be really fun."
"I'm excited to play there," said Scott. "It's like a second home almost. I'm excited to play in boulder."
The two have been playing against each other for years, and most recently, a month ago, Scott got the better of his future teammate in a three-point Lewis Palmer win.
"People always try to make us rivals, but we just started talking and enjoying each other and became good friends," said Gordon. "People try to make us enemies, arch rivals, but no, we're just really good friends."
These two friends hope to play in Saturday's championship, but in order for that to happen, Lewis-Palmer needs to beat Valor Christian in Thursday's semifinal game. Sierra would be in with a Thursday win over Broomfield.
"I think it would be fun," said Scott. "It would be cool to have two Boulder players in the finals. I think it would be fun just to be with him."
Scott is 6'10" and Gordon is 6'7". Both have combined to give cu a top-25 recruiting class next season.
