Posted 6:53 PM 1/16/2013 : Fort Carson soldier's DNA linked to two unsolved sexual assault cases
Lt. Aaron Lucas, 31, is accused of targeting at least 15 young girls across southern Colorado.
"Specifically in El Paso County, we've had two cases which we had linked Lucas to," Lt. Jeff Kramer said. "One of those was the June 19 kidnapping of a young girl in the Stratmoor Valley area."
According to sheriff's deputies, the girl was kidnapped and assaulted near the 1200 block of Forrest Road. Fortunately for her, she was dropped off a short time later in a nearby neighborhood.
A similar situation happened to another young girl in Fountain back in August.
"We did submit several items of evidence that had been collected to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, or CBI, for analysis to determine whether there was any presence of biological evidence," Kramer said.
There was enough evidence in both cases to arrest Lucas in Oct. 2012. He posted bond shortly after that arrest.
Investigators put Lucas' DNA profile into a national DNA system called CODIS. Days later, two matches were found.
"One of those matches was a DNA sample that had previously been provided out of Texarkana, Texas for a 2009 aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault," Kramer said. "The other was from a 2007 case out of Madison, Alabama."
An arrest warrant from Alabama was issued and Lucas was rearrested.
He remains behind bars without bond.
Investigators say Lucas moved to Colorado in 2009 and believe there might be other victims who have yet to come forward.
