Friends and family members are shedding more light on a double shooting in El Paso County. A man and woman were found dead last night at a home on Chieftan Dr. near Marksheffel and Bradley Rd.
The El Paso County Sheriff's office is not yet releasing the names of the victims or any additional information, but friends and family tell News 5 the two killed were Jeff Lawrence and Tara Buckler. Neighbors say the three surviving children are ages 2, 4, and 10.
People who knew the couple remember them as friendly, loving parents, but Joan Lucia-Treese-- a neighbor and friend of the family-- says Jeff's health and history indicated there may have been trouble at home.
Lucia-Treese says sheriff's deputies had been called to the house at least twice in the past for domestic disputes, but she thought Jeff was on the upswing. She tells News 5 Jeff Lawrence was taking classes at Pikes Peak Community college, and was trying to recover from his experiences in the army before this tragic indident. "He had been injured in Iraq, and did have some PTSD he told me about, and there had been some previous incidents," she said.
The children are now being cared for by a grandmother. News 5 spoke with the family today; they are thanking the community for their support and privacy during this difficult time.
