In post presidential debate analysis it is common seeing body language getting as much attention as the words and thoughts spoken by candidates. "Those kinds of things can affect people's view of the candidate," said UCCS Political Science Professor, Josh Dunn.
From previous debates there has been a lot of talk about attitudes conveyed by things like eye contact, smiles, even how many times a candidate sipped water.
For voters loyal to a party or candidate these things may seem trivial or distractions, but there are undecided voters swayed be these things. "If you come across as a disagreeable or unlikable person then that's going to push some voters away from you," said Dunn, "Particularly the ones who aren't as ideologically committed--the undecided voters."
