Gov. Bill Ritter has signed a bill expanding the state's energy portfolio to include biomass. The law signed Wednesday encourages the use of woody biomass, which comes from the byproduct of timber killed by the bark beetle. Rep. White River National Forest officials say they've had to remove more beetle-killed trees from the east side of the forest than the west.
