The City of Colorado Springs just sent out a corrected news release on the end of the Red Light program. It will end Tuesday, not the end of the year. The program is ending to save money in the city budget.
The Focus on Safety Photo Enforcement system has been installed, tested and calibrated. Next step--warning notices in the mail for drivers who run red lights.
After a one-month period when warning notices are sent, the program will begin imposing $75 fines each time a driver runs a red light....
Crews will begin installing red light cameras in Colorado Springs Monday. The construction is expected to take until the middle of September.
The cone zones will be in the following locations:
Northbound Nevada Ave. at Bijou St.
Eastbound Barnes Rd. at Oro Blanco Dr.
Soon, you may not need to have a police officer hand you a ticket for running a red light or speeding. You may just receive the ticket in the mail.
