Nearly a million trees have been planted as part of a large scale reforestation program in the decade following the state's largest wildfire. Work crews are planting approximately 150,000 Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir seedlings in a 1,100 acre section of the Hayman burn area of the Pike National Forest.... more » -

Boulder wildfire expected to be Colorado's costliest

Insurance industry officials believe the fire that scorched about 6,200 acres west of Boulder will be the costliest in Colorado's history, surpassing the 2002 Hayman fire that blackened 138,000 acres. The U.S. Forest Service, Vail Resorts Inc. and the National Forest Foundation are teaming on a $4 million, three-year project to restore habitat harmed by Colorado's worst wildfire in history.
