Ford Motor Co. says it made $2.7 billion in 2009, its first annual profit in four years. Ford says it benefited from cost-cutting, debt reduction and popular cars and trucks like the Ford Fusion sedan and Escape SUV. Trio of strong economic reports lift hopes for recovery

A trio of better-than-expected economic reports are boosting hopes for the fledgling economic recovery. A closely followed private sector gauge of manufacturing activity is showing growth.
