Bill Ritter announced Tuesday that Otero and Montrose counties have been designated primary federal disaster areas due to severe frost, freezing temperatures, and high winds that caused significant damage to melon and cherry crops. Authorities say a southern Idaho farmer unknowingly watered and fertilized more than 300 marijuana plants while tending to his corn fields. Gov. Bill Ritter has requested federal disaster assistance for several Colorado counties where crops have been affected by drought and an early frost.
