As the southern portion of the Spring Fire is contained, people living in that area are now returning home to find what remains of their properties from the 108,045 acres large fire. There are still flames in the northern sectors of Costilla and Huerfano Counties with the fire 91 percent contained.

The Red Cross has closed their shelter in Fort Garland. The site inside the Fort Garland/Fort Blanca Community Center was used for community meetings to learn more about the fire, hot meals for evacuees, and a safe place to sleep away from home.

On Thursday, authorities announced all pre-evacuation notices were lifted for residents living south of Highway 160. That includes the towns of Cuchara and La Veta. Residents of Redwing, Malachite, and CL&G were also allowed to return home.
