COLORADO SPRINGS -

The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo is back for the 78th time at the Norris-Penrose Event Center this week.

The rodeo has been a Colorado Springs tradition since 1937. Visitors can enjoy some serious rodeo action and fun for all, while paying tribute to local military and their families, according to the event page.

The rodeo starts tonight (Wednesday) and each night, the rodeo will honor one of our five military installations here in Colorado Springs. Wednesday night is Fort Carson night. The doors open at 4:00 p.m. with rides and even mutton busting tryouts.

American freestyle bull fighting is back this year. The bulls get points for how aggressive they are and the cowboys get points for their athleticism.

The professional rodeo event brings thousands of people from all over the state to watch 32 champion cowboys and cowgirls compete in seven standard events. The events include bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, tie-riding roping, steer wrestling, team roping, and barrel racing.

The event will kicked off with a parade downtown Tuesday night. The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo days runs through July 14th. For more information and tickets, click here
