All lanes of SB I-25 open in Centennial following truck fire

Posted: Updated:

All lanes of southbound I-25 in Centennial are back open Tuesday night after a vehicle fire shut down the interstate for hours.

The truck hauling approximately 200 bales of hay caught fire south of the Arapahoe Road exit Tuesday evening during rush hour traffic, causing long backups and delays on both sides of the highway.

Firefighters responded to the fire a little after 5 p.m., and the road reopened a little after 8:30 p.m.  Firefighters had to extinguish both the truck and the hay, causing them to truck in water from hydrants along Dry Creek Road and  set up a retention pond on the interstate to help in the firefighting effort.

The fire also impacted RTD lines in the area, but those are running normally again Tuesday night.
