Students arrested for Sabin Middle School threats could be tried as adults

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

A representative from the El Paso County district attorney's office confirmed two 14-year-old Sabin Middle School students accused of plotting a school shooting could be tried as adults.

The boys were arrested last October after police received reports about a possible attack on Oct. 4, and officers seized firearms in an off-campus search on Oct. 6.

The teenagers, who were 13 years old at the time, were charged with inciting destruction of life or property (a class six felony) and conspiracy (class six felony).

At the time of the arrest, CSPD said the kids had the "ability to control" the guns and the school district characterized the threat as "significant."

Because they are minors, the identify of the suspects was not released. Their next court appearance is scheduled in August.
