Pueblo City Council Bans Firework Sales

Posted: Updated:

On Thursday, the City of Pueblo announced that the sale and use of fireworks will not be permitted in the city limits this year.

The City said the decision was made in light of the number of fires burning throughout the state, as well as the extremely dry conditions locally.

On Monday during its regular meeting, the City Council directed both Police and the Fire Department to "vigorously" enforce all applicable state laws and local codes and ordinances relating to the unlawful sale, use, and possession of fireworks.

The City said the Police Department will have resources dedicated to responding to fireworks complaints on July 4th. The illegal use of fireworks is a class 2 municipal offense which is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000.00. Violations by habitual offenders are a class 1 municipal offense, which is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and up to one-year imprisonment.
