Thursday Morning Forecast: Near record temps with more scattered storms

Posted: Updated:

Today's Forecast:
Drier air limits our severe thunderstorm potential today but helps boost our air into scorching afternoon highs! Strong afternoon winds out of the west and southwest will run down the mountains and across the plains to give us down sloping warmth. Highs in the Springs will climb to 95 degrees, beating the record by one degree. Pueblo looks to warm to 101 which is just one degree shy of the record set back in 2006. Storms are likely again through the region with Las Animas, Otero, Bent and Baca counties the most likely areas in the south east plains as well as any area along the Palmer Divide. Additional storms are possible in the mountains through the Pikes Peak region that could run into the I-25 corridor this evening.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High - 95; Low - 63. Hot and dry through the majority of the day but scattered showers and thunderstorms may cross into the city possibly late this afternoon but more likely during the early evening. Severe threats are low but lightning and some gusty winds are possible in any storms.

PUEBLO: High - 101; Low - 65. Hot and dry weather is the primary story in Pueblo today but it's looking like a stray storm could form over the Wet mountains and push into or near the city late today.

CANON CITY: High - 98; Low - 66. Mainly dry and hot today with scattered and spotty showers and storms possible from the late afternoon to the early evening.

WOODLAND PARK: High - 83; Low - 55. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon and again early this evening. Any storms in the area could produce very strong outflows meaning we could see wind gusts up to 30 or even 40 mph.

TRI-LAKES: High - 80s; Low - 50s. Hot with scattered afternoon and evening storms possible. The strongest storms should take place east along the Palmer Divide but a few very gusty winds may blow out of storms that form over the lakes.

PLAINS: High - 90s/100s; Low - 60s. Very hot and breezy conditions with afternoon and evening thunderstorms possible. Storms are most likely late today and again early this evening through Las Animas, Otero, Bent and Baca counties with heavy rain, lightning and very strong outflow gusts (up to 50mph).

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High - 90s; Low - 60s. Hot and windy with afternoon scattered storms possible especially near Trinidad and east through Las Animas county. Strong gusty winds and lots of lightning are both possible from storms today.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK OR NEXT WEATHER MAKER
Friday is looking slightly cooler but we're still expecting widespread 90s with additional afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The weekend is starting to look better and better for rain with Saturday's storms hugging the Continental Divide and Sunday's storms spilling into the plains. Next week stays cooler with daily thunderstorm chances.
