Weather Alert Day: Severe storms possible today and tonight

Posted: Updated:

Today's Forecast:
Tough forecast today as we have plenty of ingredients for severe weather, but not everyone will see storms. There are two main areas for storms today: south in Las Animas, Otero, Bent and Baca counties as well as along the Palmer Divide. Storms will likely start first south down in Las Animas county sometime after 3pm this afternoon and move east through the early evening, growing severe especially around eastern Las Animas and Baca counties. Storms will likely start this evening up around the Palmer Divide, most modeling suggests sometime after 7pm and move east into northeast El Paso and Lincoln county where they could also become severe. Golf ball sized hail, strong winds, and even a weak isolated tornado are all possible in storms today, especially those that take place in the risk areas from the storm prediction center.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High - 84; Low - 56. Dry today but tonight most likely after 7pm storms are possible especially north and northeast of the city. If storms do cross through Colorado Springs sometime between 6 to 9pm large hail and strong winds are possible.

PUEBLO: High - 92; Low - 60. Dry and hot today and breezy with storms possible tonight. If storms do push into the city it'll likely be around 8pm tonight with large hail and strong winds both possible.

CANON CITY: High - 88; Low - 60. Dry and hot during the day today but early this evening after 6pm isolated storms may form and move east. Small hail and gusty winds are possible from these storms.

WOODLAND PARK: High - 80; Low - 50. Scattered storms are possible this after sometime after 3pm with plenty of lightning, small hail and a few gusty winds. Storms would likely push east away from the area by 6 to 7pm tonight.

TRI-LAKES: High - 80; Low - 50. Storms are likely to develop after 6pm tonight and they could grow strong to severe quickly, especially as they move east along the Palmer Divide. Large hail and strong winds are both possible from storms.

PLAINS: High - 90s; Low - 50s/60s. Hot and dry for the early afternoon but storms are likely after 3pm through the early evening especially for areas along and south of highway 50. Golf ball sized hail, wind gusts over 60mph and even an isolated tornado are all possible from storms later on today.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High - 80s/90s; Low - 50s. Storms are possible mainly east of Trinidad after 3pm today where they will then move east across Las Animas county and likely grow severe with large hail and strong winds both possible.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK OR NEXT WEATHER MAKER
Nearly every day this week we have a chance for rain and thunderstorms and most days the plains will likely see a chance for severe weather. Temperatures ramp up for Thursday and Friday with highs in the 90s and upper 80s both days. Some of the best moisture in Colorado will likely swing into the state this weekend with Sunday the best looking day for heavy rain across southern Colorado.
