City Council members support proposed baseball stadium in Pueblo

Posted: Updated:

City Council members unanimously voted to move forward with a proposed baseball stadium in Pueblo.

The Pueblo County Commissioners asked for support from Pueblo City Council and that's exactly what they got. The board gave it's blessing to move forward with the baseball stadium in a meeting Monday night. Some members said the stadium will be a tremendous amenity to Pueblo and that they are all for the project.

But, before city council approved the stadium project, the floor was open to the public with some residents saying they're not so sure. Some said this may not be the best thing for Pueblo.

Others commented saying the city doesn't need another baseball stadium, as there is already one at Runyon Field.

"If we put money into that it would serve the same basic purpose as a field that's being proposed that's going to cost 25 to 50 million dollars," said Joe Latino, opposed to baseball stadium.

Latino also says there are other needs the county and city should be focusing on like getting a grocery store on the east side of town and helping low-income neighborhoods.

Moving forward, there will be hearings at the county levels and more opportunity for public comment. We will continue to keep you updated as the project develops.
