Eagle County Sheriff's Office searches for suspects involved in Bocco Fire

Posted: Updated:
EAGLE COUNTY -

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office is seeking information on three individuals believed to be involved in a wildfire that broke out Saturday afternoon.

The Bocco Fire, burning three miles northwest of Wilcott, reportedly may have started near an unofficial shooting range at about 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The hot, dry conditions and the wind caused the fire to grow to at 415 acres by 8:00 p.m.

The blaze is burning just northwest of Wolcott. Evacuations have been ordered for people living in the Alkaline subdivision. The fire forced the closure of Highway 131 between US 6 and Trough Rd.

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office said it is looking for three individuals who were in the area when the fire first started. The individuals are described as three white men with long hair, driving a red and white truck.

One of the men was described as wearing an orange shirt. Sheriff's deputies say a white sedan was also seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed around the same time as the truck.

Approximately 37 structures are being threatened north of the fire, but there have been no reported losses or damages to structures as of yet, according to a release. There is zero percent containment as of Sunday evening.

Multiple agencies and aircrews worked to knock down the flames, which are burning on both Bureau of Land Management and private land.

The Edwards Interfaith Chapel is open for evacuees, and the Eagle County Fair Grounds is available for large animals that need to be evacuated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the individuals described are asked to call the Eagle County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
