Fort Carson soldier dies in ATV accident

PENNSYLVANIA -

A Fort Carson soldier died in Pennsylvania while on leave this past weekend.

According to a release, 19-year-old Private Cody J. Maines of Ashville died after he was involved in an ATV accident last Saturday.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 12, 2017, where he was assigned to the 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson in December 2017.

"The Stagecoach Battalion is deeply saddened by the loss of PV2 Cody Maines. Cody was relatively new to the Army but already demonstrated he was an excellent soldier," Lt. Col. Mike Iannuccilli, 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 4th SB, 4th Inf. Div., said. "His family has our deepest condolences following this tragic loss."

Private Cody Maines was issued the National Defense Medal.
