City of Pueblo announces fire restrictions

Posted: Updated:
PUEBLO -

The City of Pueblo Fire Chief, Shawn Shelton has placed the city under high fire danger status, effective at midnight on June 4th.

The city said this decision was made due to a number of weather related factors and after consulting with area Fire Chiefs and the Pueblo County Sheriff.

What this means for residents is that no open or recreational burning will be permitted by any person within the city limits of Pueblo. This restriction extends to all forms of open flame including but not limited to: recreational and portable fire pits, tiki torches, and all fireworks. Outdoor smoking is only permitted in areas that are clear of combustible materials.

The current restrictions do not apply to outdoor gas or charcoal cooking grills or protected welding operations.

Those who disobey the restrictions can be charged with a violation and fined under municipal code.
