Barricaded suspect taken into custody

Posted: Updated:

Colorado Springs Police closed off a neighborhood on the west side of the city Wednesday night due to a barricaded suspect and shots fired call.

Around 7 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 300 block of West Dale, where a man was barricaded inside a home with a gun.

According to police, witnesses said that 37-year-old Michael Jones was yelling racial slurs at a neighbor before firing three shots in the air and barricading himself in his home.

Some residents living along Dale Street just east of Spruce were evacuated, while others were asked to stay in their homes while the incident unfolded.

Police said they tried to talk to Jones, but were unable to reach him.

A man who said he lived below the barricaded suspect said this wasn't the first time Jones had fired a gun around his home.

Around 9:30 p.m. police in protective gear and SWAT vehicles showed up to the scene.

Not long after 11 p.m., police reported that Jones was taken into custody. He was booked on felony menacing charges.

No injuries were reported from the scene.
