Peace officers memorial to be unveiled in Memorial Park

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

The Colorado Springs community will come together Tuesday to honor our fallen law enforcement officers with the dedication of a new memorial.

The long awaited Peace Officers Memorial will be unveiled Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Park. The Board of El Paso County commissioners voted unanimously a week ago to dedicate the memorial, which has been in the works for thirteen years.

The memorial will honor 32 people killed in the line of duty in El Paso County and Teller County since 1895, including deputy Micah Flick who was killed on Feb. 5, 2018. Each name will be honored with an 18 by 24 inch bronze plaque.

The site will be a place for members of the community to pay their respects to the fallen heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"Its been a rough few years really for Colorado and the region. Its been pretty hard, and of course those officers have all been honored and our local Micah Flick, he has been etched in our base under our fallen line," said Comd. David Edmonson, of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The memorial cost around $1.6 million and was paid for through various fundraising efforts and donors.

Tuesday's dedication ceremony will take place at 1 p.m., in Memorial Park. The annual Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers Memorial service will be held at the site on the following Friday, at 10 a.m.
