After five days of striking, District 60 leaders and union representatives and were able to find common ground Saturday. A tentative agreement was made with members of the Pueblo Education Association (PEA) and the Pueblo Paraprofessional Education Association (PPEA), following an afternoon of negotiations.

This is what was agreed upon for PEA members:

  • For 2017-2018
  • 2% COLA RETRO to January 2018
  • 5 Strike Days – 2 excused leave, 3 days covered by the district (teachers will be provided the opportunity to work 2 additional days beyond their contract in lieu of using 2 excused leave days or any combination thereof)
  • For 2018-2019
  • STEP for teachers – September 1
  • 2.5% COLA – September 1
  • $50 towards health insurance – total of $520 – September 1

This is what was agreed upon for PPEA members:

  • For 2017-2018
  • 5 Strike Days – 2 excused leave, 3 days covered by the district (ParaPros will be provided the opportunity to work 2 additional days beyond their contract in lieu of using 2 excused leave days or any combination thereof)

The PPEA already voted to accept the deal Saturday, as PEA members will vote digitally Sunday. If that deal is accepted, the strike will end.

"We believe every experience, no matter how difficult, is an opportunity for growth and new learning. Each individual is to be respected for doing what they believe was in the best interest of our students. The time has come to move forward and rebuild. We look forward to a year of healing and restoration of relationships including the community," the District said in a statement Saturday.
