Colorado woman never receives prize for contest winning Oreo flavor

Posted: Updated:

A Colorado woman says she has never received the prize she was promised for submitting an idea for a winning Oreo cookie flavor.

The company allegedly used the flavor, but a prize was never given to her.

Taylor Young of Lone Tree, submitted the cherry cola Oreo flavor idea a year ago. Young says she got an immediate response after her submission.

"Shortly after, I got a little box with two cherry cola cookies." Along with this note, "Dear Taylor, Thanks for sending us your idea. We thought it was so delicious, we turned it into this one-of-a-kind creation just for you..."

Young said she was on cloud nine since the winning flavor was said to take home $500,000.

But the communication between Young and Oreo suddenly came to a stop. She then started seeing her cookie flavor on store shelves.

"I reached out to them and I said, 'I'm seeing that my cookie won."

She received a response from Oreo saying that cherry cola was already in development so it wasn't her idea, it was theirs.

"That's not cool. But if they claim that they already had it in their back pocket, then they don't need to provide prizes to anyone."

Young says she finds the whole situation "disingenuous."

"If there was a kid who had come up with this and their mom and dad submitted it and they saw their cookies on the shelves in them they didn't get it. That's really sad.
