Saturday marks 60th anniversary of NORAD

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE -

Saturday marks 60 years since the creation of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). 

A ceremony is scheduled Saturday hosted by the Commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command Gen. Lori Robinson as well as distinguished military guests from Canada and the U.S.

The ceremony will also include a series of flyovers from various Canadian and U.S. aircraft.

NORAD was created to serve as a protection for North America's borders. 

NORAD is a bi-national organization between the United States and Canada, using aerospace control. 

Canada's 'Snowbirds'- their version of the Air Force Thunderbirds participated in flyovers over Peterson Air Force Base and Cheyenne Mountain on Friday. 

More flyovers are expected on Saturday to celebrate the anniversary.
