Driver charged with multiple felonies in May 4th crash

On Friday May 4th, CSPD officer responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Galley Road and Wooten Road.

When officers arrived on scene, they identified two occupants from one vehicle and four from the other. The occupants of the first vehicle were an adult male and a six-year-old female. Both of these individuals were transported to an area hospital to be treated for injuries.

Detectives from the Major Accident Unit responded to the scene and began an investigation.

According to CSPD, the investigation revealed that the vehicle with two passengers ran a red light and collided with a trailer attached to the vehicle with four passengers.

CSPD said the investigation further revealed that the driver of the first vehicle was knowingly operating a vehicle with a faulty braking system and also had the child passenger riding unrestrained in the the front seat. This driver was identified as 29-year-old Daniel Muniz of Colorado Springs.

On May 9th, Muniz was arrested for child abuse and vehicular assault, which are both felonies.

As of May 9th, the child passenger riding with Muniz was still receiving treatment at the hospital.
