AFA to offer 600 free tickets to upcoming graduation ceremony

The Air Force Academy class of 2018 graduation ceremony is scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23 at Falcon Stadium.

As they have done in the past, the Air Force Thunderbirds will put on an aerial performance to wrap up the ceremony. Tickets are required to attend the graduation, and several hundred will be made available to the public.

Approximately 600 free tickets for the ceremony will be made available on Monday, May 14th. A maximum of five tickets are available to each person on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets cannot be mailed and lost tickets cannot be replaced.

The general public may pick up tickets at the following locations and times:

  • The Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC office,102 S. Tejon St., Suite 430,
    8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • The Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce, EDC and Visitor Center, 166 Second St. in Monument, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. 

The Academy said those attending the ceremony should arrive at the stadium by 8:30 a.m. and gates will close by 9 a.m. Once the ceremony begins, no one will be allowed to leave the stadium until the Thunderbirds performance ends at approximately 1 p.m.

The North and South gates at the Academy are scheduled to open to guests at 6 a.m. and the stadium gates will open at 7 a.m. Vehicles traveling onto a federal instillation are subject inspection. Drivers will need to have a current driver's license, proof of insurance and registration while on base. All adults must have valid i.d. to access the Academy.

Spectators will have to pass through metal detectors to get into the stadium. The following restrictions will be in place.

  • Food must be carried in a clear one-gallon plastic bag.
  • Drinks or liquid are not allowed except clear, sealed water bottles
  • Sunscreen is restricted to one, six-ounce, non-aerosol container per person
  • Cameras are allowed but may be inspected
  • Diaper bags are permitted for guests with children
  • Strollers, aerosol spray, boxes, alcohol, weapons, firecrackers, beverage containers, backpacks, large handbags, coolers, and thermoses are not allowed

If severe weather occurs, the ceremony will be moved to Clune Arena in the Falcon Athletic Center.
