Ewing closes NCAA Region Championships

DURANGO -

Colorado State University-Pueblo junior Courtney Ewing (Pueblo West, Colo.) closed the NCAA Division II West Region Championships Wednesday with an 80 to finish tied for 34th.

Ewing was 19-over for the Championships at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colorado (76-79-80--235). The appearance was the first of her career and marked the fourth player in program history to qualify for the regional as an individual. The junior was honored as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Year earlier today.

She gathered five birdies Wednesday and nine for the tournament to tie for the third most in the field of 66 players. Ewing had 25 pars at the Championships.

Ewing started on the front nine for the first time in the tournament and got off to a promising start with three birdies, two pars and a bogey in the first six holes to sit two-under. Unfortunately she played the next six holes five-over with a pair of doubles on Par 3's. The junior rebounded with back-to-back birdies to sit just one-over with four holes to play. The finish was not what Ewing had hoped for, as she would play those final four holes seven-over, which included a triple bogey on the Par 5 17. Ewing had played those four holes a total of five-over in the previous two rounds combined. The Par 3's proved to be her downfall, as she played them 10-over for the Championships.

The round wraps the season for the women's golf team. The ThunderWolves finished the regular season ranked No. 46 in the Golfstat Division II team rankings. The Pack tied for second at the RMAC Championships and placed in the top five on six occasions, which included three runner-up finishes, in nine tournaments in 2017-18.
