Posted: Updated:

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team used a strong third round on Wednesday to finish the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional in fourth place, which gives them a spot in the National Championship finals later this month.

The Mountain Lions finished the three rounds with a combined score of 871 (294, 287, 290), which was just two behind third place Holy Names and 10 strokes back from the winners, St. Mary's (Texas).

Both Colin Prater and Tanner Comes were tied for third place as they both shot a 209.

Comes led UCCS on Wednesday with a -3 under par (68) as Prater was won behind with a -2 under (69).

Teammate Jack Duguid finished tied for 37th with a 222 as Peter John was tied for 99th (236) and Ignacio De le Vega placing 105 (241).

With the result, the Mountain Lions advance to the finals, which will be held May 21-25 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

It will be the sixth time the program has qualified and just the first time since the 2013-14 season.
