Stamp Out Hunger food drive to be held Saturday in Colorado Springs

Posted: Updated:

The largest single day food drive in the nation is back once again in Colorado Springs.

The Care and Share Food Bank's 'Stamp Out Hunger' program will happen this coming Saturday, May 12th.

According to Care and Share, last year's event raised 60,000 meals for families in need. This year, the organization said they hope to up that number to 85,000 meals.

“Stamp Out Hunger is like no other food drive, and each donation truly matters. We are so grateful to community members who donate nonperishable items and for the letter carriers who take the time to collect each bag to help fight hunger in Southern Colorado,” said Lynne Telford, President and CEO.

Here's how the program works.

Those who wish to donate can simply leave a bag of nonperishable food in or next to your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pick up the bag and bring it back to the Care and Share Food Bank. Volunteers will then sort through the donations and make them ready to be passed out. That's it!

The Care and Share Food Bank provides food to agencies across southern Colorado to serve families, children, and seniors in need. The organization is also a member of Feeding America, a national food bank association. Each year, Care and Share distributes more than 23 million pounds of food to 286 agencies throughout 31 counties in southern Colorado.
