Defending US Senior Open champ blown away by The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs

Posted: Updated:

The Broadmoor is a world renowned resort and golf club and many in the golf world know much of the history of he nearly 100 year old course.

Everyone except Kenny Perry.

"Knew nothing about it - isn't that awful?"

The defending Senior US Open champ made his first trip to Colorado Springs Sunday night, opened his blinds on Monday morning and was awe struck by the view. Then he saw the course.

"Being from Kentucky we don't talk about The Broadmoor but I will now!" Perry said. "I'll go back and tell everybody, this is a place they need to put on their bucket list and come hang out because it's spectacular."

The upcoming USGA championship will be the eighth major championship contested on the East Course at the Broadmoor, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the club.

Director of Golf Russ Miller said the tournament came back to help the club celebrate it's centennial.

As far as the course is concerned, Miller said it's pretty much done.

"We know the green lines and the rough height and things like that," said Miller. "We'll keep promoting ticket sales, we don't sell out so the ticket sales are great! We want people to know, please come out and enjoy it - kids get in free and all those things and so promotions will be the big part."

The tournament kicks off June 24th and ends July 1st.
