Canadian Forces Snowbirds to fly over Colorado Springs this weekend

Posted: Updated:

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will celebrate NORAD's 60th anniversary this weekend in Colorado Springs.

The Snowbirds are similar to the U.S. Air Force's Thunderbirds, an air demonstration squadron with decades of history. The team is currently flying in its 48th season.

Look for the planes in the sky above Peterson Air Force Base around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, and at 10:40 a.m. on May 12. They will also be flying over Cheyenne Mountain Air Station around 3:30 p.m. on May 11.

The Snowbirds fly CT-114 Tutor jets, which were used to train student pilots from the mid '60s to 2000. The Snowbirds fly modified versions of the jets, with a more powerful engine to fly at low altitudes.
