Posted: Updated:

A driver accused of crashing his car in a construction zone on Dublin Blvd. is facing a charge of felony vehicular assault as police say he fled the scene, leaving his passenger trapped in the car.

Colorado Springs Police were called out around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night for the serious crash at Dublin Blvd. and Bridle Pass Drive.

According to officers, the driver of the Acura tried to make it through the construction zone while speeding. Instead the car flipped over.

The passenger, who suffered serious injuries, was rescued by firefighters as police worked on finding the driver. 26-year-old Kolton Hawkins was found about three hours later at an apartment complex near Austin Bluffs and Oro Blanco. Police say he suffered minor injuries in the crash.

He's charged with felony vehicular assault and faces additional charges not yet detailed by Colorado Springs Police.
