Police arrest man after he attacks security guard with walking stick

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

Colorado Springs Police responded to a disturbance at a local Dollar Tree store where a man attacked a security guard with a walking stick Friday night.

Police responded to the Dollar Tree at 1877 S Nevada Ave just before 9 p.m. after receiving a call that a man assaulted a security guard with a large stick. According to police, the suspect was in the store for several hours and had a number of concealed items in his pockets, and a full shopping cart of other items.

The security guard was contacted and attempted to speak with the suspect when the suspect then swung a large walking stick at the guard hitting him in the face, police said. A fight ensued taking both the suspect and guard to the ground, while a bystander grabbed the walking stick to prevent any additional use.

The security guard was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. The suspect, later identified as 52-year old Robert Norris, was taken into custody without incident and will face charges of Second Degree Assault and Theft.
