Colorado man to spend 2 years in prison after fatal crash

Posted: Updated:

A Colorado man is sentenced to two years in prison for his role in a car crash that killed two people and left two others critically injured.

36-year old Anthony Rodriguez, 36, was driving on Highway 160, just east of the Montezuma-La Plata county line, when there was a sudden downpour and he lost control. He then crossed the median and hit another car head-on.

The crash killed Robert Streett and his 16-year-old son Robby Street. Police say speed was definitely an issue.

District Judge Todd Norvell said because of the seriousness of the crash, incarceration was an appropriate punishment for Anthony Rodriquez.
Rodriquez must also serve five years of probation after his release from prison. He pleaded guilty in January to two counts of vehicular homicide, as well as charges of careless driving causing bodily injury and driving without insurance.
Witnesses say Rodriguez was traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle lost control, skid into oncoming traffic and struck an SUV carrying a family of four.
