LAKEWOOD -

You may wan't to start taking a closer look at those expiration dates on food from the grocery store.

The Carelse family of Lakewood said they recently bought a box of Quaker 100-Percent Natural Granola Cereal from a Littleton Walmart, and something about it wasn't quite right.

When the dad started to eat some of the cereal, he knew something was wrong. It was then that his wife noticed the printed "best by" date on the box said February 22, 1997. That's 21 years ago.

Fortunately, the Carelse family said everyone is feeling fine.

A Walmart spokesperson said they're investigating how the expired cereal remained on the shelf.
