Proposed plastic bag tax bill fails in committee

DENVER -

A bill in the legislature right now is proposing a 25 cent bag fee for shoppers using plastic bags has been shot down in committee.

Rep. Paul Rosenthal (Denver-D) and Sen. Lois Court (Denver-D) originally sponsored the bill, which would have use the tax revenue to fund affordable housing.

The fee would have been 25 cents for the entire purchase at the grocery store, no matter how many bags are used, It would have required voter approval.
